President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed on December 24, 2008, Proclamation 1699 that lays out the holiday schedule for this year. The president advocates holiday economics, which switches holidays around against their intended dates, closer to the weekend so as to boost local tourism and improve family ties.
